Emergent readers are books that help young readers who are learning their letters and sounds plus a bank of sight words. They rely on pictures to help give context and clues that aid in their reading and understanding the text. To make your own book similar to the book, 'daddy shaves,' you will use the brightest primary colored paper possible.

Each pages of 'daddy shaves' features a daddy and his son waking, playing, fighting and etc. You can feature daddy or another character such as mommy, Gran or Gramps, or even your student.

Printable Halloween Book for Kids. I love making books with, and for, my preschool students. So many early learning concepts can be taught using simple homemade books. With Halloween coming up, I thought it would be fun to create a new printable emergent reader for the the bottom of this post to grab your own copy.

Simply print the page emergent reader in color; I suggest printing on cardstock so the pages are easy to manipulate for young readers and so you can’t see through the book. Stack all the pages from the same readers (see upper right corner for which level book.
